There's need to protect Zambian women and girls
Passing judgement in a case in which David Musonda 30, was charged for indecently assaulting the girl on April 13, last year magistrate Tembo noted that although the accused was first a offender entitled to some leniency cases of indecent assault on females were on the increase. “Zambian women and girls need to be protected against defilers and rapists by courts to impose deterrent sentences, especially considering that the women and girls were very beautiful,” he said. The girl in the testimony said Musonda followed her in to the study room, removed her pants before removing his and then proceeded to have sex with her for some minutes. He then dressed and ordered the girl to do the same as well. She explained that Musonda did the same thing to her on two occasions before her mother found Musonda on the last time. The girl’s mother said she became concerned when her daughter failed to respond to the call for lunch. She said she became suspicious when Musonda came out of the study room. When she went there she found her daughter lying down. She then reported the matter to the police and Musonda was charged with indecent assault, as there was no examination by Doctors to verify the defilement Musonda in his defence clamed that he had been packing some goods in the study room and was on his way out when the girls mother confronted him. In mitigation after his conviction Musonda said he is the only one looking after his mother and that he was a sickler.
