  • Six Juveniles Released

IX juveniles of Lusaka’s Msisi compound who were accused of murder in February this year have finally been released.

Trial commenced on 17th August this year in which the mother to the deceased testified.

In her testimony, Luni Mwaba said she had known the boys for a long time and has never heard anything bad about them and her late son.

Trial continued on 25th of the same month in the High Court before justice J.C.Mutale. State Advocate Mrs Petronella Ngulube said the State had decided to enter a nolle prosequi, which effectively meant that the juveniles had been discharged.

Legal Resources Foundation (LRF) lawyer Mambwe Chipazhya who represented the boys said there was no actual evidence for the charge.

“We were prepared to make sure that the boys were acquitted. The boys were discharged because the State Advocate entered a nolle prosequi,” said Chipanzhya.

Chipanzhya further said it was an anti climax because he did not expect it to happen at this stage.

According to one of the boys talked to by the LRF, the Foundation represented them from the beginning of the case in court until when they were released.

He said that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had found them with no case to answer.

“They realised that they had made a mistake in their statements and that the DPP did not find any evidence, so we where released,” said one of the boys.
