    olour of NRCs

    Every National Registration Card when issued to a citizen of Zambia, is green in colour, when issued to citizen of other countries it is pink in colour

    Pink NRCs can only be issued to commonwealth citizens or citizens of the Republic of Ireland or citizens of such African countries as are declared to be countries which permit citizens to become citizens of those countries by registration.

    All other aliens or foreign nationals are issued with blue cards.

    Every person to whom a National Registration Card is issued must sign his name on the space provided or if unable to write to affix his right thumbprint.

    Any registered person intending to leave the country permanently must, at the place of his departure surrender his National Registration Card to a Registrar, immigration officer, police officer, or customs officer.

    Within thirty days of the death of a registered person, the person who is in possession of the deceased’s NRC must deliver or cause the NRC to be delivered to a Registrar.

    Change Of Name Or Names
    No registered person may use or adopt a surname other than the surname appearing on his National Registration Card unless he delivers to the Registrar a statutory declaration that he absolutely renounces his former name and assumes a new name.

    He will have to surrender his old NRC and a new one will be issued in his new name.

    Change of National Status
    When a person changes his national status he must surrender his NRC and complete forms that he will be required to, the old NRC will be cancelled and a new one will be issued.

    Change of Residence
    If the holder of a blue NRC issued ceases to be resident at the address set out that NRC, he must immediately attend before a Registrar-
    · surrender to the Registrar his NRC;
    · Complete Form 4 or give the Registrar such information as the Registrar may require to complete the said Form 4 on his behalf.
    · the Registrar will forward the Form 4 duly completed together with the NRC to the Chief Registrar who will amend the register
    · The Chief Registrar will cancel a NRC forwarded to him by the Registrar and cause the registered person to be issued with a new NRC.

    Loss, Destruction or Damage to NRC
    When any registered person reports the loss or destruction of or damage to his NRC, he has to complete Form 4 or give the Registrar such information as the Registrar may require to complete the Form 4 on his behalf.

    The Registrar will then forward the Form 4 duly completed to the Chief Registrar who will cause the particulars contained in it to be verified in the register and inform the Chief Registrar of their accuracy or of any inconsistency.

    If any registered person who has reported the loss of his NRC, subsequently recovers it, he must immediately notify the Registrar of such recovery and if a new NRC has not already been issued to him he shall retain it.

    If a new NRC has already been issued to him, he shall surrender the NRC so recovered to the Registrar who will have it to be cancelled.

    Inserting, Deleting Information
    No person may insert, delete, alter or cause to be altered any particulars in the register relating to any registered person unless authorised in writing to do so by the Chief Registrar.

    Any person duly authorised by the Chief Registrar to insert, delete, or alter any particular in the register will notify the Chief Registrar in writing when such insertion, deletion or alteration has been completed.
