Monze Teacher Defiles Girl, 13
By Perpetual Sichikwenkwe
A TEACHER at Kayuni Basic School in Monze, Southern Province is alleged to
have defiled a 13-year-old girl after she was asked to take care of the
house when the teacher and his wife went to attend a funeral.
The teacher is alleged to have defiled the girl after he came back from the
funeral and allegedly warned the girl not to tell her guardians.
The grandmother to the girl reported the matter to Law Association
Development (LADA) after she failed to find a lawyer to represent her
granddaughter in court.
LADA Paralegal Elslony Hatimbula told The LRF News that in October 2004 a
named teacher requested the girl who stays in the same school community to
spend nights at his home with his daughter while he and his wife went to
attend a funeral in the village.
However, after two days, the husband returned home but the guardians to the
girl were not aware of his return and allowed the girl to go and spend
another night at the house.
When the girl went to the teacher's house, she found the teacher and two
other boys in the sitting room.
The girl did not find her friend and when she asked, she was told that her
friend had just left for a holiday in the village.
The four sat in the sitting room while the teacher was ironing clothes and
later the boys went to sleep leaving the girl and the teacher in the sitting
room.
The teacher allegedly took advantage of the situation and pulled the girl in
his bedroom where he had carnal knowledge of her.
The girl said she could not shout for help because the teacher warned her
against doing that.
After being defiled, the girl ran to her grandmother's house and disclosed
what the teacher had done to her.
The matter was reported to police and a medical report indicating that the
girl was defiled was issued.
The teacher was arrested but he was released on police bond. When the matter
went to court, the accused acquired himself a lawyer to represent him but
the grandmother of the defiled girl was unable forcing her to seek
assistance of LADA.
