Estate Agent Attempts To Sell Clients House
By Madube Pasi Siyauya
Kabwe Legal Resources Foundation Legal Advice centre has called on members of the public to deal with credible estate agents.
Kabwe Paralegal Michael Mwanza made the call when he received a report from a Chinsali resident who complained that his house was almost sold by an estate agent.
Clement Gondwe told Mwanza that on August 23 2003 he contacted a Property Consultant in Kabwe to put his house situated in Lukanga township in Kabwe on rent.
He said the named consultant put the tenant in the house and deposited the money in Gondwe's account after deducting his fees.
He said in January 2004, Gondwe decided to travel to Kabwe to attend a funeral of one of his relatives.
He said whilst there, he met the property Consultant who advised him that he should sell his house at K12 Million to which he refused.
But the Property Consultant claimed he spent a lot of money renovating the house though without the owners consent.
Gondwe said the property consultant instead went ahead and got K16m from a widow who had shown interest in purchasing the house.
He said two days later, he found the Consultant locked up in police custody for having obtained K16 Million from a widow he promised to sell the same house.
He said the consultant had gotten a copy of the title deeds to the house after claiming that the sitting tenant wanted to see them. The consultant will appear in court soon.
LRF has since assisted Gondwe place a caveat on the house until the matter was resolved.
