Chanda Urges Journalists To Highlight Children's Plight
By Perpetual Sichikwenkwe

THE Press Association of Zambia (PAZA) has challenged the media in Zambia to be pro-active in highlighting children's issues, especially those affecting the disadvantaged.
PAZA vice-president Amos Chanda said it was disappointing to note that some media houses showed images or naming defiled children.
Chanda said this put the victims at a disadvantage because they ended up being discriminated against or shunned by the public.
He said it was unethical for journalists to publicise and worse still show the images of defiled children to members of the public, saying the media had a duty to protect such children from being known to avoid them being discriminated against.
He was speaking at People Impacted by Aids (PIBA) Awards ceremony organised by the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development and RAPIDS in Lusaka recently.
The awards were aimed at recognising journalists who have contributed significantly to broaden national, general public and community awareness and understanding of the issues surrounding vulnerable populations impacted by HIV/AIDS.
And chief of party at RAPIDS Bruce Wilkinson said there was need for journalists to create awareness and understanding on how issues like HIV/AIDS impacted on a population.
Wilkinson said his organisation would continue working with the media to highlight children's plight.
