Mistreats Sons
By Perpetual Sichikwenkwe
A Mufulira parent has allegedly detained National Registration Cards (NRCs)
and clothes for his twin sons after chasing them from home.
Rocky and Webby's father, Mukunkani, has also refused to attend local court
sessions despite being summoned several times.
Rocky told The LRF News in Kitwe recently that the father also used to beat
them and deny them food before finally chasing them from home.
Rocky said his father made his mother, Dorothy Tonga, pregnant in 1984 in
Chipata. However, shortly after their birth he chased the mother and they
went to stay at the village with their grandmother.
In 2001, when his mother heard that their father was working in Mufulira,
she went to ask for child maintenance but Mukunkani suggested having the
children with him and gave her transport money to send them to him.
Rocky said on February 11, they started off for Mufulira where they were
welcomed by their father.
After 3 months of staying with him, the father started mistreating them.
He beat them up, refused to give them food and always telling them to go and
work in the garden from 06:00 hours to 18:00 hours.
He told them that if they went back home early, he would beat them up and
lock them outside while he let his nephews and nieces eat the food in the
house.
Rocky said his father made sure that he sat at the door to see to it that
the two never ate.
After writing their grade 9 examinations their father chased them but
detained their NRCs and clothes.
Their mother sued him in the Kalulushi local court and the court ordered
that he returns the NRCs and start maintaining his sons for K60, 000 each
month.
When the court cited Mukunkani for contempt of court, he never responded.
LRF Kitwe office has transferred the case to Mufulira magistrate's court
where the court has written to Kalulushi local court to get the background
of the case. |
